Books for Aspiring DANCERS!

Does your little one just love dancing?

Mine does too! All she wants to do is dance around our living room. If you ask E, she'll tell you that she loves ballet more than anything except ice cream and even more than Mommy and Daddy! If I were going to buy books about dancing, these would be them!

I'm a Ballerina! (Little Golden Book)

I love Little Golden Books! This book for little ballerinas comes with cute illustrations and is also pretty instructive! The little girl goes to her dance class, and we get to watch as she warms up and then shows us different dance positions and moves.
The Only Boy in Ballet Class

I hope this book will help both boys and girls who want to dance! This book is about a little boy who just LOVES to dance. However, not everyone understands him, and he's often bullied for being in ballet. The book shows how he uses the skills he learns in ballet class in more arenas than just dance. Hopefully, this book will help boys who love to dance to be confident in themselves, and it will help the kids around them to understand them and support them.
Dinosaur Dance!

We actually have this one! And my 3 year old loves it, of course. We're big fans of Boynton books, and this one is just as cute as the others. Even my one year old can get through this one, and she has zero patience for books. Each dinosaur does a different made-up dance move, except for the tiny little dino who does the cha-cha-cha. My kids love trying to act out the moves, so this counts as reading time and exercise!

Ballerino Nate

Another great book for little boys (and the boys and girls around them) who love to dance. Nate goes on a field trip to the ballet, and he completely falls in love with it. His brother, however, hates the ballet and thinks it's "stupid." This attitude begins to wear on Nate, and we get to see how Nate deals with this adversity.
The Night Before My Dance Recital

This is just a cute little book about dancers getting ready for their dance recital. It is set to the theme of T'was the Night Before Christmas, which gives it a fun, familiar feel. The dancers are both boys and girls, so this is a fun one for all kids!
Brontorina

This is a cute little book about a dinosaur who wants to become a ballerina. At first, everyone is a bit skeptical, even shocked. Soon, though, Brontorina brings them around. It's a great story about being who you are and doing what you love, no matter what others might say about it.
Ballerina: A Step-by-Step Guide to Ballet

This is a practical guide for the serious ballerina! This book is for older girls who are looking for a much closer look into what ballet really is. It is chock full of ballet terms and lovely picture demonstrations of each term. A little bit of a side note, but I love that the pictures are of girls of multiple races: ballet is not just a "rich white girl" thing, but can bring grace and discipline and fun to everyone.

Books for Aspiring CHEFS!

If your little one wants to be a chef, or just plain loves to cook, this book list is for you! Right now my 3 year old, E, is very into cooking! She loves saying "I can help!" She'll do anything you let her do, from helping to hold a mixer, to measuring and pouring an ingredient into a bowl. These are great opportunities to teach her about the world and people around her, as well as how to actually cook. But if your kid is anything like mine, she would much rather read about it than have me "lecture" her. I won't pretend that I've actually read any of these books, but if I were going to buy books about cooking or being a chef, these would be them! Cooking Class: 57 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Make (and Eat!) This book is recommended for ages 6-12. It has recipes for a variety of skill levels: some require simple cooking, such as boiling, but many of the recipes need no cooking at all. There are many simple recipes that I think

What We're Reading ~ The Snow Beast

E's favorite book this week is The Snow Beast , by Chris Judge. We have read this book at least 7 times since we checked it out at the library four days ago!  It has a simple story with simple illustrations, and the jokes are perfect for a three year old. The Beast wakes up one morning to find that not only are all of his tools gone, but all the villagers' tools are gone too. When they blame the mysterious Snow Beast, the Beast goes on a quest to find him and get their tools back.

What We're Reading ~ Peter Rabbit

Last night for bedtime story, E read Peter Rabbit for the first time! Her favorite part was when Peter jumped into the watering can and got all wet. Silly Peter! Beatrix Potter is a classic author, and I'm so excited to start introducing her fun stories and cute illustrations to my kids. E, who is 3 right now, is the perfect age to start these. She has just the right attention span, plus the ability to start understanding some of the simple morals (like "listen to your mother!" 😂). My site on Redbubble has Beatrix Potter's original illustrations, available on many different products! Beatrix Potter and more!
